Are Philly Fans the Worst Fans in Sports?

Maybe.

They threw snowballs at Santa Claus decades ago.  They vandalized a mobile broadcast booth recently.  And when I was there to photograph the TD Bank Philadelphia International Championships, I saw this:

The remnants of a knife fight…

Unfortunately for me, the 5 minutes it took for the above to unfold left a really sour taste in my mouth and overshadowed what was a pretty awesome day of bike racing.

Kudos to Will Routley for staying off the front and keeping things interesting for what seemed like the entire race.

Kudos also to the riders, who were pretty awesome to the fans…

…despite reports that some fans were throwing batteries at the racers.

The rest of my shots are here.

  • Isn’t it crazy that we’re both Half-Kenyan dudes from Illinois who went to Harvard, who’ve been on the cover of Rolling Stone, and play basketball, and have resoundingly good looks?
